WHS Act

The formal title of the Act is the Work Health and Safety Act 2020. It provides a framework to protect the health, safety and welfare of workers in WA workplaces, and of other people who might be affected by the work.

The WHS Act and accompanying regulations will come into effect in 2022.

WHS regulations 

On 15 December 2021, Minister for Industrial Relations, the Honourable Stephen Dawson MLC, announced an update on the timing of the release of the draft WHS regulations.

Publication in the Government Gazette of the Work Health and Safety Regulations for the three sectors and transition to the new laws, which was originally scheduled for January 2022, is now expected in March 2022.

Draft exposure copies of the WHS General, Mining and Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Regulations available.

WHS Information sessions – registrations open

The department will be running WHS update sessions during January and February. The sessions will be held in Perth metro and regional areas with live-streaming where possible.
