Strategic Plan – Towards 2026

The department’s strategic plan – Towards 2026 – builds on our purpose of supporting a safe, fair and responsible future for the Western Australian community, industry, energy and resources sector.

The Western Australian economy is entering a phase of significant transition. The next decade will focus on decarbonisation and transformation of the energy sector, diversifying the economy and labour market management. While the demand for our natural resources is predicted to remain strong, the national and global markets will be challenging for individuals and businesses alike.

As the agency responsible for regulating many of those businesses, it is our responsibility to create the regulatory settings that will keep people safe, and enable industry to adapt and thrive.

Our new Strategic Plan - Towards 2026 considers these external challenges, and will guide us to change how we respond to support the State. The plan covers the next three years, with our 12-month focus presented on a single page for our stakeholders.

Strategic Plans Towards 2025 and Towards 2026 feature a commissioned artwork of Derbarl Yerrigan by local artist Bradley Kickett.

The department worked with Bradley to develop an original artwork that would incorporate one of our key focuses from our Towards 2025 strategic plan, to ensure Aboriginal voices are represented in planning and decision making. This piece incorporates the location of all five of our metropolitan offices and brings a sense of cohesion with the land. When unveiling the piece, Bradley spoke of his history as an artist, the important messages that drive his work, including a strong connection with the land and the waters of which DEMIRS is a custodian on behalf of Western Australia.

This is Bradley’s second Derbarl Yerrigan piece however, this particular painting was composed with new layering techniques and an evolution of personal style that brings a maturity in shading and composition. It is the start of a new phase in Bradley’s artistry and DEMIRS is proud to display this work.

Art is personal, and Bradley’s art pieces are influenced by experiencing Noongar country , from the oceans to the rivers, and seeing the wildflowers and the land from the air and showing the flow and the shapes of the earth. These images are all interwoven with the history and the stories that are shared and passed down from family and elders. Bradley is an award winning artist with local and national awards
